Differences Between Timesheets
Editions
CyberMatrix
Timesheets is an employee timesheet entry application that allows
people to quickly enter the time they worked on different
activities. See the Timesheets page for
additional details.
There are five different editions of Timesheets: Timesheets Standard,
Timesheets Client/Server, Timesheets Enterprise, Timesheets Web and
Timesheets CE.
Timesheets Standard
CyberMatrix Timesheets is very similar to the timesheet entry feature
of Project Clock Pro. Unlike Project Clock Pro, a manager
must approve timesheets in CyberMatrix Timesheets before they
can be used in reports. CyberMatrix Timesheets was designed for those
companies that do not need precise details of time employees spend on
projects just a quick way of entering the work week's time in one
setting. It can be used with multiple users sharing common data over a
network.
Pros
- Timesheet data can be shared over a network.
- Easy to install.
- Inexpensive.
- User-friendly interface.
Cons
- More
likely to require occasional database re-indexing maintenance in an
unstable environment. An unstable environment is one in which a machine
crashes or is powered off improperly.
- Poor performance with many (10 or more) people
using it at the same time.
- Can only be used on Windows PCs.
Timesheets Client/Server
Timesheets Client/Server is ideal for small or large numbers
of people using it at the same time on a Windows network who need
to enter employee time data over the intranet or Internet.
Timesheets Client/Server has all the features of Timesheets
Standard except that data cannot be backed up and restored from the
client software. Timesheets Client/Server is a true client-server
implementation in that only the server directly access the database.
Additionally, the data is shared over a TCP/IP connection. This means
you can have a server running in North Dakota and have a client with an
open Internet connection running in England sharing timesheet data like
it was in North Dakota.
Pros
- Timesheet data can be accessed over an intranet
or even the Internet.
- Very little chance of requiring database
re-indexing maintenance.
- Good performance with many people using it
at the same time.
- User-friendly interface.
Cons
- Can only be used on Windows PCs.
- Cannot back up and restore data from the
client software.
- Cannot directly connect to other database
servers such as MS SQL Server or MySQL.
Timesheets Enterprise
Timesheets Enterprise is ideal for large numbers of people using
it at the same time on a Windows network who need to access
employee time data over the network or over Internet. Timesheets
Enterprise has all the feature of Timesheets Client/Server. The biggest
advantage of Timesheets Enterprise over Timesheets Client/Server is
that the Enterprise edition is scalable. You can start with a small
group of users using a single database server. Over time you can
increase the number of users. If performance starts to degrade you can
use your database server's load balancing capabilities to improve
performance. Using the advanced features of database servers, you can
accommodate unlimited numbers of people.
Pros
- Timesheet data can be shared over an intranet
or even the Internet.
- Data can be stored on your choice of several
database servers, including MS SQL Server and MySQL.
- Very little chance of requiring database
re-indexing maintenance.
- Good performance with many people using it
at the same time.
- User-friendly interface.
Cons
- Can only be used on Windows PCs.
- Must use and maintain an external database
server, such as MS SQL Server and MySQL.
Timesheets Web
You can access Timesheets Web from a browser on virtually any operating
system. The web edition of Timesheets is ideal for small or large
numbers of people using it at the same time who need to share
employee time data over the intranet or Internet. Due to the
limitations of web applications not all the features of the Windows
editions of Timesheets are available in the web edition. For example,
the Data Manager in Timesheets Web is not as easy to use and Timesheets
Web cannot synchronize data with Quickbooks, MS Project or Timesheets
CE.
Pros
- Timesheet data can be accessed on the intranet
or even the Internet.
- Very little chance of requiring database
re-indexing maintenance.
- Good performance with many people using it
at the same time.
- Client can be accessed from any web browser.
Cons
- Less functional Html interface.
- Must run the server software on a
Windows-based PC.
- Cannot edit or create reports.
- Cannot connect directly to other database
servers, such as MySQL or MS SQL Server.
Timesheets Web EnterpriseLike
Timesheets Web, Timesheets Web Enterprise can run from a browser
on virtually any operating system. The web edition of Timesheets
Enterprise is ideal for large numbers of simultaneous users in a
Windows environment who need to access time charge data over the
intranet or Internet. Like Timesheets Enterprise, Timesheets Web
Enterprise is scalable. Due to the limitations
of HTML not all the features of the Windows editions of Timesheets can
be found in the web version. For example, Timesheets Web does not
have approval by project.
Pros- Data can be accessed over the intranet or
even the Internet.
- Very little chance ofrequiring database re-indexing maintenance.
- Good performance with many simultaneous
users.
- Client can be accessed from any web browser.
Cons
- Less functional Html interface.
- Must run the server software on a
Windows-based PC.
- Cannot edit or create reports.
Timesheets CE
Timesheets CE runs on Windows Mobile (except SmartPhone) and Windows
Embedded handheld computers (PDAs). Timesheets CE can be used by
itself to record employee time spent on different projects. However,
the main use of Timesheets CE is to enable the data collected on a
Windows Mobile device to be imported into the Windows edition
of Timesheets.
